GamesU :: The Social Games Unconference
An unconference is a facilitated, participant-driven conference centered around a theme or purpose. The term “unconference” has been applied, or self-applied, to a wide range of gatherings that try to avoid one or more aspects of a conventional conference, such as high fees and sponsored presentations. [sic] The term is primarily used in the geek community.
Ever been to a BarCamp, WordCamp or similar unconference? This year, Neoncon is applying that same approach to game design and storytelling with our first Games Unconference aka GamesU!
For the most part, the GamesU agenda will be set by you! While we are working on bringing in established game-industry professionals for a few key sessions, an Unconference is driven by peer presentations. Do you run a small gaming press? Are you a podcast host and/or producer? Are you an artist breaking into gaming and/or comics? GamesU presents an opportunity for you to take center stage to both teach and learn from your peers.
Finally, if you are professional, student or small business owner in the gaming, comics, zine, podcasting or small press industries, your participation in GamesU 2009 makes your entire Neoncon experience (ticket, hotel, meals, etc.) a tax deduction! That is the real icing on the cake!
